Native Title

On 30th April 2019, after a 25-year battle, the Federal Court delivered the historic announcement of the Consent Determination at a fabulous ceremony at Brunswick Heads for Arakwal people, which for the first time acknowledges the native title rights of the Bundjalung People of Byron Bay. More than 300 people from across the Bundjalung nation gathered at Toorakina Reserve to support and celebrate this historic event.

We retain a strong connection to our country, actively caring for and reconnecting our people to this place.

Cultural Programs

Broken Head Holiday park

Proudly owned and operated by Bundjalung of Byron Bay Aboriginal Corporation (Arakwal)

The Arakwal people officially reclaimed Broken Head Holiday Park in July 2009, as part of an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA2) with the New South Wales Government.

Situated on the beachfront of Broken Head just seven kilometres south of Byron Bay, Broken Head Holiday Park is surrounded by national park and stunning views north towards Byron Bay and south towards Ballina. A stroll through the reserve track offers unbeatable views of rock formations and the Pacific Ocean. The park is perfect for a quiet laidback holiday.

Welcome to Country ceremonies

Welcome to Country promotes an awareness, understanding and mutual respect for cultural practices by both Arakwal Bundjalung and the wider community through observation of protocols and sharing in cultural practice.
